About the Film

Based on Arshay Cooper’s memoir, A Most Beautiful Thing tells the unforgettable true story of the nation’s first all-Black high school rowing team, made up of young men from Chicago’s West Side.

The film explores their journey from trauma and violence to resilience and brotherhood. As Arshay reflected:“When we were on the water, we couldn’t hear sirens or bullets. That silence gave us space to imagine who we could become. And that was a beautiful thing.”

Twenty years later, the team reunites, this time with their sons and, in an extraordinary act of unity, members of the Chicago Police Department rowing by their side. What unfolds is a story of healing, reconciliation, and the power of coming together against all odds.
